Krueger and Steinfest

Batting 100: Krueger and Stienfest, Inc. a Wisconsin institution for nearly 100 years

Krueger and Stienfest, Inc., located in Antigo, Wisconsin, is more than just a family business. It’s been a Wisconsin institution since 1921 when Charlie Krueger first began logging. It was 1946 when Charlie opened his official business, CF Krueger Excavating. It became a family affair in 1956 when Monte Krueger (current chief executive officer), along with Roman Stienfest and his wife, Maxine, joined the business. Maxine ran the office until she and Roman retired in 1993. The business is now in its third generation.

Current president, Shane Krueger (Monte’s son) joined the family business in 1993 and his brother, Travis, came along in 2004 as vice president. Together they maintain daily operations and manage approximately 15 full-time employees.

Krueger and Stienfest focuses primarily on site and road work along with snow plowing in the winter. Antigo and Langlade County is a large farming area, so they also do work in agricultural settings. In fact, much of their business is with farmers so their success depends on the success of the area’s farming. They run a mixed fleet of excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, and other small support equipment but, perhaps one of their favorites, is the John Deere 160D excavator with thumb.

According to Shane and Travis, the ergonomic cab on the 160D is comfortable for all their operators. Larger operators say the cab is roomy and fits them well while smaller operators say the seat and controls adjust perfectly to suit them. They all agree that they love the thumb on the machine, especially the thumb hand controls.

Krueger and Stienfest have been working with Nortrax for some time and say they really appreciate the effort their salesman makes to keep their machines running and productive. “Our salesman shows up when he’s needed most,” said Shane. “He’s always available for questions and concerns and makes things happen when we need something. Nortrax really is there for us for service after the sale.”
