Green Logging

From Mules to Deere
Like many forestry operations, Green Logging is a family owned (specifically by father, Wesley Green, and son, Darren Green) business based in Tracy City, Tennessee. Timber is the main resource for work in Tracy City and while the logging industry has been volatile in many parts of the country, the Greens have not only been able to keep their business growing but they have expanded from mules to Deere.

Wesley began logging in 1970 with mules. Three years later, he purchased his first John Deere 440 Skidder. Darren joined his father in the woods following his high school graduation. The business grew and in 2000 they went from running one crew to several crews. They currently employ seven experienced and dependable crew members. The Greens value them so highly and take care of them at all costs. “We believe in operating like a family, not a business,” said Wesley.

Darren said they take the same approach when it comes to their equipment, “life is too short to run bad equipment,” he joked.

Green Logging is currently running a 100 percent John Deere fleet including the following machines:
  • Two 437D Knuckleboom Loaders
  • Three 748H Skidders
  • One 843J Wheeled Feller Buncher
  • One 959K Tracked Feller Buncher (The largest John Deere machine in the mid-south region)
  • One 700J Crawler Dozer
There was great excitement when the company took delivery of the 959K in October 2014. The machine is quite a big deal in the Tennessee region and they could not be happier with its productivity.

The same could be said for their other John Deere machines. “We like Deere for its speed, fuel economy, operator comfort, and the fact that they are built tough and can stand up to the extreme conditions us loggers face,” said Darren.

Doing business with Nortrax is just the icing on the cake. “The people at Nortrax are great. They treat you like family,” said Wesley. “The location of the store and the ease of getting our parts when we need them are so important. When we have a machine down and we need parts or service, Nortrax understands the urgency. We even love our sales representative despite the fact that she drives a Chevy,” joked Darren.
