50 Years of Satisfied Customers

Founded in May of 1967 by Alfredo DiMenna, DiMenna Excavating Contractors Ltd. in Ruthven, Ontario got its start performing residential jobs with a single Case backhoe. The company’s quality work proved to be a driver of growth through the turn of the century. In 1999, sons Dino and Fermi took the reins and shaped the company into what it is today.

DiMenna Excavating specializes in mass earth moving and land leveling but has also retained its smaller scale service offerings. Projects include heavy earth moving, building retention ponds, installing water mains, and – maybe most interestingly – GPS and laser grading for the greenhouse Industry. Leamington is the tomato capital of Canada. The area is covered by thousands of acres of glass and poly greenhouses, and DiMenna services approximately 75 to 80% of these growers. The business has been so consistent in the Leamington and Kingsville areas, that DiMenna has been able to grow while working primarily within a 20 km radius.

Over half of DiMenna’s equipment fleet consists of John Deere iron, including two 250 ADTs, backhoes, excavators, loaders, dozers, and a 4600 Tractor equipped with laser leveler. The company celebrated its 50th Anniversary in business on June 9th, 2017. Dino purchased a 310SL Backhoe for his father to honor not only their 50 years of business, but also his brother, Fermi, who tragically passed away from cancer, May 17, 2014 at only 48 years of age. The backhoe was wrapped in custom graphics and was displayed at an anniversary event held at Mastronadi Winery in Leamington. Dino has since taken sole control of the company after his brother’s passing and the company’s optimistic future couldn’t be brighter.

The durability and performance of John Deere equipment over the years has impressed DiMenna. They are fans of the JDLink telematics system, and feel that the 310SL Backhoe has smooth, quick hydraulics and delivers impressive pushing power compared to its competitors. Nortrax has also played a part in John Deere’s prominent place among DiMenna’s equipment fleet. They rely on Nortrax service and the ability to receive parts overnight when needed.
