Opportunity Launches Success

If you find yourself on a road trip through the White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire and happen upon the small town of Warren, you can’t miss seeing the Redstone Rocket nor the work and efforts of Chris Whitcher and his team at C.M. Whitcher Rubbish Removal, LLC. Roadside America lists Warren as a “don’t miss offbeat tourism attraction”. The small community, nestled in New Hampshire, is the only town with a real Redstone Rocket. The same kind of rocket that hurled New Hampshire native, Alan Shepard, into space. Warren is also the home of Chris Whitcher, where in 2002, he decided to jump into a new venture and launch his business – C.M. Whitcher Rubbish Removal, LLC.

Chris was raised around a contracting business that his grandfather started and his own father worked in until his retirement. Chris was ready to work hard but he also wanted a job with much-needed stability of year-round employment. In the summer of 2002, Chris had just graduated from high school and learned the state of New Hampshire had newly enacted laws and regulations that would prevent backyard burning of trash and force many smalltown landfills and dumps to cover, reclaim, and close. Chris knew this was a huge opportunity and he had the background and work ethic to make it successful. That fall, he flew to Tampa, Florida and purchased his first garbage truck. It was an “88” Mack Rear loader, and since it was from down south, he figured it would hold up to the harsh New Hampshire weather. From there, Chris purchased some rear load dumpsters, and ten small and six large capacity containers. Within weeks they were all spoken for and more were on order. It didn’t take long for Chris to see that he jumped into this business at just the right time with the peak demand still to come.

Just two short years later, Chris hired employees, invested in dozens more containers, a roll off truck, construction dumpsters and built a transfer station. This provided the company the opportunity to keep the collection trucks working routes and the ability to dispose, reload and transport the waste via tractor trailer some 75 miles north to Berlin, NH.

Chris and his wife, Jaime, operate the business on a parcel of land that has been in the family for over two centuries. Beyond their large fleet of trucks, the company has had the opportunity to own and operate many types of machinery including dozers, horizontal grinders, chippers, and yard cranes. Chris remembers that his dad and grandfather always had an appreciation for the quality found in John Deere equipment. He has purchased and owned his share of John Deere including several wheel loaders, excavators and grapple skidders. “Nortrax has been my company of choice and will continue to be,” said Chris. “They always put together fair deals and have been extremely helpful with sales, service, parts and equipment rentals.”

Today, C.M. Whitcher Rubbish Removal, LLC has expanded from collection, transferring and transporting waste to include demolition, sitework and land clearing projects. On October 29, 2017, Warren was unfortunately hit with severe rains that caused the Baker River to wash out a lot of the town. Chris and his company were hired by FEMA to help repair and reroute the swollen river. They rented additional machines from Nortrax to help with the job. Chris’ son, Jack, took some incredible drone photos of the river damage and the equipment at work restoring the area.

The company has grown leaps and bounds over the past 15 years and with Chris’ knack for finding ways to transform opportunities into strategic growth, they have many more years of success ahead.
