Just Normal Guys Playing in the Dirt

In today’s economy, some construction companies don’t stand the test of time. But Fort Pierce, Florida-based Blue Goose Construction has been fortunate enough to be exempt from that experience.

Blue Goose is a 70-year-old company with roots in agricultural development and maintenance programs. Blue Goose’s parent company, Bernard Egan and Company, has been in business for even longer with more than 100 years under its belt. Clearly, there’s no cooking this Goose.

“Our heavy, civil, and marine programs began about 15 years ago,” said Scott Holmes, Vice President of Blue Goose Construction and Blue Goose Growers. “We are licensed general contractors, underground utility contractors, pollutant storage contractors and we have several other licensed certifications,” he explained. While the company keeps itself busy with various jobs, its focus is really on heavy, civil, and underground utilities as well as marine, agricultural, and road infrastructure. Currently, John Deere represents 40 percent of the company’s fleet and plays an integral part in keeping them up and running from job to job.

“John Deere fills a niche in our agricultural programs with large tractors and implements,” said Holmes. “Niches are also filled in our mass excavation projects with large excavators, such as our 850 and 470s. John Deere also has helped in the development of our extreme-reach excavator fleet with 100 percent duty 95-foot-longreach excavator as well as several 75-foot-extreme-reach machines,” he explained.

Not only does Deere keep Blue Goose running but Nortrax does its part as well. “We’re happy with Nortrax’s location and availability of service. Their product knowledge and friendly staff keeps us coming back. It’s nice to have long-term staff relationships with those who are servicing our machines,” said Holmes.

When asked what keeps Holmes and his crew running from job to job and enjoying every minute of it he simply chuckled and said, “We’re just normal guys who really enjoy playing in the dirt.”
